Empror penguins, the tallest and heaviestpenguins, are the only birds that can lay their eggs on ice. After te female lays her egg in winter, she will go t eat while the male kepps the egg on his fet to keep it warm until it hatches. He does not eat during this time, and can lose up to half his weight. The female will be back in spring when the egg hatches. Now it's the male's trun to go to sea to eat. He coomes back to help the female look after the thick.
